Of course, the reality is that the original PSVR, tethered to the PS4 with PS Move controllers, could not cope with the ambition of the game the companyвЂ™s next-gen headset, with all-new controllers and a next-gen console to power it, presumably can. The one benefit of it repurposing PS Move technology for its previous generation virtual reality solution was that it no doubt had a factory full of the wands from the PS3 era, and that really helped to drive costs down. I donвЂ™t think this setup is going to be cheap, by the way, and so weвЂ™re looking at a seriously steep price for SonyвЂ™s next-gen PSVR headset. ItвЂ™s worth noting that the analogue sticks will also make a massive difference moving forwards. Hopefully itвЂ™s managed to deliver technology like that. It all culminated in an update for Alyx in late May that added shockingly-realistic shaders to all of the gameвЂ™s bottles. He then resumed work on a pixel shader that would give the illusion of liquid within the bottles and provide more realistic interaction with light. Wilde says he spent ages just looking at bottles to understand the various tiny details of how the liquids and the surface of the bottle reacted to movement and light. Valve employees were now working from home, and so Wilde had a lot more time on his hands. However, the day of AlxyвЂ™s release - March 23 - was also the day that Washington state went into lockdown. So the game shipped with opaque bottles that lacked the realistic outer shine and the appearance of liquid within. Wilde says he did some preliminary work on the bottle shaders in the lead-up to AlyxвЂ™s release, however he wasnвЂ™t able to finish it in time.
